RULES

 

 

 

 

 

Art.1

The Antonio Napolitano International Piano Competition - Salerno will be held at the Lloyd’s Baia Hotel, Via De Marinis, 2, Vietri sul Mare, (Salerno), June 28 - 29, 2017.

 

 

 

 

Both the final round of the Piano competition and the Awards Ceremony concert will be held at  Teatro  “Giuseppe Verdi” in Salerno, Italy on  June 30, 2017.

 

 

 

The Competition is open to candidates of all ages and nationalities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Art.2

The following documents must be sent with the application form:

 

 
  1. Copy of birth certificate or passport.
  2. Certificate of residence or declaration of residence.
  3. Two recent, signed photographs.
  4. Programme for the preliminary, semi-final and final round including the name of the pieces and the composers. Playing time must be indicated. The jury must be provided with a copy of the selected pieces prior to the round.

      5.   Application fee payment receipt.

Entry fee :

The Antonio Napolitano Piano Competition:  € 110.00

If a candidate chooses to participate in both the Antonio Napolitano Piano Competition and in the Vietri sul Mare-Amalfi Coast International Piano Competition the entry fee is € 170.00.

 

 

 

 

 

Entry fees include membership in the Salerno CTA (Acli Tourist Centre) Cultural Association.

 

 

 

Art.3

 

 

 

Travel and lodging expenses are the candidate’s responsibility.

 

 

 

Candidates will not be admitted to the competition unless payment and documents have been received in advance.

 

 

 

Candidates who withdraw or are excluded from the competition as a result of application irregularities are not entitled to a refund of the registration fee.

 

 

 

 

 

Art.4

 

Competitors must register on the day and at the time which will be communicated to them. Before the round candidates must present proof of identity and provide the jury with a copy of the selected pieces.

Art.5

 

 

 

 

PROGRAMME

 

 

 

THE ANTONIO NAPOLITANO INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION – SALERNO is divided into 3 obligatory stages.

 

 

 

  • Preliminary and semi-final round at theLloyd’s Baia Hotel, Vietri sul Mare, (Salerno) Italy,   June 28 - 29, 2017.
  • Final round at Teatro “Giuseppe Verdi” in Salerno on June 30, 2017.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PRELIMINARY ROUND 

 

 

 

Maximum length of the recital: 20 minutes

 

 

 

 

 

Each candidate must present:

1) One or more études from among the following:

 

 

 

 

  • F. Chopin (Études Op. 10, Études Op. 25).

 

 

 

2) One or more études from among the following:

 

 

 

  • F. Liszt ( Études d'exécution transcendante S. 139 and S. 140, Grandes Études de Paganini S. 141, Études de concert S. 144, Konzertetüden S. 145).
  • C. Debussy (Études).
  • A. Skrjabin (Études Op. 8, Études Op. 42, Études Op. 65).
  • S. Rachmaninov (Études-tableaux Op.33, Études-tableaux Op.39).

 

 

 

3) The first movement of a Sonata by F.J. Haydn, M. Clementi, W. A.Mozart or L. v.Beethoven

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note : In the event that the candidate has not used all of the time available, a piece or more pieces of his/her choice may be performed,provided that the duration of the entire recital does not exceed 20 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SEMI-FINAL ROUND 

 

 

 

 

 

Maximum length of the recital : 25 minutes 

 

Each candidate must present a concert programme which includes pieces of the candidate’s choice excluding those performed during the preliminary round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FINAL ROUND 

 

 

 

 

 

Maximum length of the recital : 20 minutes 

 

Each candidate must present a concert programme which may include pieces performed during the preliminary and the semi-final round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Candidates must play from memory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EVALUATION

 

 

 

Art.6

 

 

 

At the end of the preliminary and the semi-final rounds, each member of the Jury will express one of the following judgments: admitted or not admitted.

 

 

 

At the end of the final round, each Jury member will individually rank the competitors, selecting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners. The Jury will then convene and following consultation with the Artistic Director a final decision will be taken.

 

 

 

 

 

Art.7

 

All pieces must be performed in their original version. Transcriptions of published works for piano originally composed for orchestra or for other formations are permitted.

Art. 8

 

 

 

 

Daily practice facilities will be provided during the competition period. A practice schedule will be set based on request.

 

 

 

Art. 9

 

 

 

 

 

All auditions are open to the public. The Jury decides the order of appearance of the competitors. Any competitor absent during roll-call will be excluded from the competitions, except in the case where late arrival is the result of "force majeure" and the first round has not already been completed. In this case the candidate must inform the Secretary immediately.

Art.10

 

 

 

 

The organization does not assume any responsibility for missed or late-arriving communications to the competitors, nor does it accept responsibility for damages during the competitions. In the event of a dispute as to the interpretation of the rules, a decision will be taken based on the printed Italian version of the Rules and Regulations.

 

 

 

 

 

JURY

Art.11

The jury is composed of highly respected Conservatory teachers as well as eminent musicians and critics. Those jury members who have had teacher-student relationships with any of the competitors within the last two years must inform the chairperson and must refrain from taking part in both the voting and the voting process in relation to the above-mentioned competitors. 

Art.12

The Artistic Director or a delegate may vote as part of the jury panel. 

Art.13

If necessary the chairperson of the Jury or a delegated member may ask competitors to stop their performance or repeat it. In the case of temporary unavailability of one of the jurors, the Artistic Director may nominate a substitute. The decisions of the Jury are final and cannot be appealed.

 

The Jury may decide not to award prizes. In the event of joint winners, the jury may divide the prize money equally.

 

 

 

 

 

Art.14

 

 

 

The first, second and third A. Napolitano Piano Competition winners will be announced by the Jury following the finalists’ performances during the awards ceremony at Teatro “Giuseppe Verdi” in Salerno on June 30, 2017. 

 

 

 

The winners of the Antonio Napolitano Piano Competititon and the overall winner in all the categories of the Vietri sul Mare-Amalfi Coast Piano competition must play without remuneration at the Awards Ceremony concert at Teatro “Giuseppe Verdi” in Salerno on June 30, 2017.

 

 

 

 Non-participation in the awards ceremony or ensuing concert will result in loss of the prize. Prizes will not be sent by mail.

 

 

 

Art. 15

 

 

 

The Court system in the Province of Salerno will have jurisdiction over any legal claims.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PRIZES

- € 3,000.00 scholarship in loving memory of Antonio Napolitano
- concert engagement at the July 2018 summer music festival Concerti d'estate di Villa Guariglia (The Villa Guariglia Summer Concert Series)

 - First Prize Certificate and plaque

-  € 1,500.00 scholarship kindly donated by Ms Rosamaria Bianco    
-   Second Prize Certificate and plaque

 

 

Third Prize: 

- € 1,250.00 scholarship in loving memory of organist and choirmaster Fortunato Galano 
- Third Prize Certificate and plaque

 

 

 

 

Special Prize:  - € 1,000.00 scholarship kindly donated by the Associazione Marina, Salerno

 

 

 

for the best Italian student of Music Conservatories, Academy and officially recognized music schools.

 

 

 

Jury Prize :     -  € 400.00 scholarship kindly donated by the Banca Monte Pruno

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All remaining competitors will be given a certificate of Merit and/or Participation
